What engines would be a good replacement for a Chevrolet Camaro z28 old engine?

I want to know which modern engines are good for a 1979 Chevrolet Camaro z28?

V8 ofcours|||Depending on your budget, you can't go wrong with a Gen III engine. You can go anywhere from the 5.7 LS1 to the 7.0 C5R engine. YearOne makes a kit to put this engine in your car! (link below)

There are several advantages to these engines. First, the head design of these engines is superior to Gen 1 and 2 engines, especially for power on a budget. A traditional SBC has 23 degree heads, while a Gen 3 has 15 degree for better airflow. Second, the LS1 (5.7), LS2 (6.0), LS3 (6.2), LS6 (5.7), and LS7 (7.0) are all aluminum engines...and will shave about 150 lbs off the front of your car, assuming you have an iron block/head engine now. That might not seem like a lot, but believe me, you will notice the difference. Third, they are fuel injected and will give great throttle response and fuel mileage. Also, if you could find a wrecked car to get parts from, you could get an ECU, transmission and engine together and make life simple. Just to give you an idea about power and economy, my 99 Formula has an LS1 that delivers 440hp to tires, it has a 4L60E automatic, and 3.23 gears. The car will go 11.6 in the quarter all motor, 10.7 on bottle, and gets 26 mpg on the highway with the cruise set at 70...with the a/c on! The car now has 88,000 miles and has been driving fairly hard since 20,000. It has been well maintained, but not babied...it's still going strong.|||Ls7 :) isn't that in the new z06?

Would a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer make a good first car?

The car I am looking at is a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer s10 zr2 4wd and I was wondering what your thoughts are on it as a first car for an upcoming girl driver. What problems did you experience with this particular car or what did you particularly like about this car. Overall, is it safe and good on gas mileage?|||since you are asking this question, you must like the idea of owning a blazer.

to answer your question, yes the blazer will make a great first car. over the years the s10 blazer and truck has just gotten better. there are many ++++ to owning and driving the blazer. to start with it's a real 4x4 which gives you a good winter vehicle that can also go off road or even travel on the beach. the seating position is higher than a car so you can see over over most of them in traffic. this can give you advanced warning of traffic problems (cars slowing down in front of you etc.).

the blazer has good towing cap. and will carry larger items.

driving a 4x4 is a little different than driving a car. you will need to take turns and curves a little slower. and watch quick maneuvers like lane changes but as long as you know this it is not a problem. because it a 4x4 and a little bigger and heavier than most cars the mpg will be less than a cars but depending on how its equipped it will still get into the 20+ mpg.

overall they are safe vehicles as long as they are driven like a 4x4.

hope this helps|||Those May not be good, more of a better car is Honda Civic 2000 Those would be great for a girl..why?

How much would it cost to take my 2003 Chevrolet Trail Blazer to Chevrolet to change my engine?

New Engine!

Take to Chevrolet to change engine!|||If you elect to "have your engine changed" at the Chevy dealer, it will usually cost you 2-3 times more than anywhere esle, other than a dealership. If you already have the new/used engine and simply want to know the cost, well it's based on man-hours worked; it's usually $100 per hour (give or take), at the dealer. I have a 1965 chevy pickup and need to find a car/truck/suv that has a chevrolet big block 572 so I can rebuild the engine and put it in the truck.

Thanks for answers!|||It isn't stock on any production vehicle. It is a high performance 9.4 liter 572 cubic in. crate engine. They usually deliver about 720 HP and 685 lb-ft of torque.|||The 572 is not a regular production engine, and you won't find it in any junked cars. Is it possible to bypass 4 wheel drive in a chevrolet siverado 1500?

My brothers 2000 chevrolet siverado 1500 quad cab 4x4 dropped the rear drive shaft and he thinks the transfer case is bad on it as well. Is there anyway he can replace the rear drive shaft and bypass the 4 wheel drive to still be able to drive it? This would just be a temporary fix until he can afford to get the transfer case assembly replaced as well. Any help is greatly apperciated!|||Power to the rear wheels HAS to go through the transfercase, so no, you can't bypass it. You don't have to put it in 4WD, but if the case is bad, 2WD is going to likely cause problems too.

As to the other poster, why would putting the driveshaft in the same way it came out matter? Do they balance the driveshaft while it's on the vehicle? Do you make sure your wheels go on the exact same location on your vehicle, and that the wheel lines up with the rotor just like you took it off too? Ridiculous. That's why they are balanced individually.

What he MEANS is to make sure you keep a two piece driveshaft "in phase". If the driveshaft has a slip yoke in it, and it is taken apart, when reassembled the u-joints at either end need to be lined up. Since the 2000 truck invariably has a "slip yoke" (one end just slides into the transfercase) it's not going to be an issue, unless the truck is long enough GM used a two piece driveshaft in it.|||put the rear one back on and fix what broke to make it come off ,probably u joints, pull front shaft off but balance mark it first which is paint a dot on the shaft and on the yoke on both ends of shaft. if it is bad it should either not move or make a noise when it does move

I found out that they have already Supercharged for the Impala. I can imagine how fast that sucker goes if my grandmother's regular stock Impala was that fast. Is this car definitely fast and who's driven one?|||Ok the 03 Impala SS had the 3800 Series II Supercharged and it only comes in the Automatic with Overdrive sad to say. It is pushing 240 hp and 280 lbs of torque. It would be one hell of a ride if it was a manual.|||SS impalas have a big v8's they either come with Auto, Auto with o/d, or manuel.. They have superchargers for carburated engines... but if it's original don't ruin it if it's a original classic except rims. It's up to you thought.... what year?|||NO!|||well, im pretty sure that you can buy a manual transmission impala but it would only be manual because it is the base model and chevy didn't want to waste money by making it auto. but my mom drives a 2004 Impala SS Indianapolis Speedway Edition. that thing is fast. it's got a supercharged 3200 engine, but it is an auto.|||No, but they'd sell em' if they made em'!

Which shoe on a Chevrolet S10 is the rear and which is the front?

I have a 1998 Chevrolet S10 rear wheel drive with drum brakes on the rear and disc in front. My truck recently failed inspection because I put the rear shoe in the front and the front shoe in the rear the mechanic said. I have taken off my shoes and I can't tell the difference. And I didn't take a picture before removing them. How can you tell which shoe belongs where since they will go on backwards (I assumed they would only go on one way)?|||I own a shop, and have a lot of experience with this issue. First thing to do is remove the shoes from both rear wheels. Compare all of them. The shoes will look the same, but the difference will be the pad (not the shoe) attached to the shoe. If you have a long pad, and a short pad, then put the short pad towards the front of the vehicle, and the long towards the rear of the vehicle. I would go to a parts store, and confirm I had the correct shoes for the vehicle by looking at another box, and this is after making sure they gave you the right numbered box. Some vehicles have the same shoes front, and back on the rear wheels. Once you have them installed, rotate the adjuster with a screwdriver to make sure you hear them click. If not, then something isn't right. Look for the spring on the adjuster being on wrong, and causing the adjuster to sit too far out. Another thing is the tab that works the adjuster wheel sometimes will get worn to the point of not turning the adjuster wheel, and just slips right over it without turning it. Adjust the brakes to where you can get the drums on both wheels, and go work the emergency brake to center them up. Remove the drums one at a time, and adjust them until you have a small drag on the drums, and this is where you want to have them. If in doubt, go to the library, and pull a Chilton's Repair Manual, and you will see how it all goes. Also; It may be a good idea to bleed the brakes.

One very common mistake is; Looking at the adjuster, you will see where the shoe fits into a slot in the end of it. Notice there is an angle (the shoe rides on) down inside the groove, and it can go either way. Once the shoes are in positon, and the springs are attached, these angles should now be in line with the angle on the shoe. If one end is one way, and the other end is the other way, then the shoes are not balanced, and the adjuster isn't against each shoe the same. This angle is there for a reason, and it's important the angle is turned the proper way. If it's not; then it needs to be turned so the shoe matches with the adjuster and it doesn't have more push on one shoe, than it does the other. Installing the adjusters, and springs are critical to the brakes working equal.

Glad to help out, Good luck!!!|||Self energizing brakes means they wind around and make there own force to help you slow down leading shoe firction surface is smaller and the trailing shoe has a different materal and more of it. Most the time you cannot even tell if the shoes are backward. IN TEXAS we do not remove the brake drums but test for straight stopping at 20 miles an hour.|||On most GM vehicles the rear drum brake shoes are the same shape and size for the metal or backing of the shoe. What is different is the length of the friction or wearing surface that is rivoted onto the metal. The physically longer friction surfaced shoe is the secondary shoe and it is placed at the rear of the backing plate on both sides. Hence the reason that they are interchangeable as left and right both have to have the longer shoes mounted towards the rear of the vehicle. If you take the shoes off of one side and they look the same, make sure you didn't install both secondary shoes on one side which would have both of the primary shoes on the other. As you said, they will all fit on the same way. Make sense?|||Wow, you're lucky with all the expert advice, while some of these women here have none...why?|||the longer of the shoes go to the rear|||Look the friction part of the shoes, where it makes contact to the drum, the longer one is toward the back.|||They should be 2 slightly different sizes. bottom and no solid anchor on bottom), the shoe with longer friction material goes to the back side (tailgate) and the shoes with shorter friction material goes on front side (engine).

I am installing a JVC car deck, and connecting and amp and subs to it in my truck. It is a 2003 Chevrolet S10 Pickup, 4 door fully loaded but no on star. What wiring harness do I need to do this so that my door chimes and air bags and stuff won't be bothered.|||In an S-10, the door chime isn't generated by the factory radio (and the air bags aren't affected by removing the radio in any GM vehicle--imagine the lawsuits!). If you have the oversized double-DIN GM radio, use Metra's 70-2003 harness. Check to see if there's a wire in the factory plug that lines up with the red wire in the Metra harness. If there is, then you can just wire up the harness as usual; it should work fine. If there's no accessory wire in the factory plug, then you'll have to connect the red wire to a different key-switched power source. You should be able to find one in the fuse box pretty easily.

A few of the later S-10 models used the data bus system to control the radio power, but none of them ever used the radio to generate the vehicle warning chimes. You can remove the stock radio and it won't affect any other vehicle systems.

If your factory radio is a Bose model, you'll probably need a premium sound adapter to make the after-market deck work with your factory amp and speakers.|||don't be a butcher and cut the stock wire harness on the car. go to your local auto parts store and get one these http://www.cowboom.com/store/productDeta鈥?/a> connect by crimping or soldering to the stereos harness, plug to the cars harness and play. butchering will only cause you headaches if you are not too knowledgeable with automotive wiring diagrams.|||no wiring harness just install it you have your memory wire, accessories, ground and 8 speaker wires and the aux out, same as for the amp just the rca's battery and ground and accessories just wire that up and it will work

With gas the way it is those should be dirt cheap. less than 2k at least

rd|||Do you need it? Do you regularly carry a lot of passengers or cargo? Do you need its massive towing capacity? If not, go for something smaller.

My parents owned a '99 Suburban, purchased new. By '03 the A/C was getting a bit weak but no serious mechanical problems at about 55,000 miles. The one in question does have low miles considering its age, so mechanically it should hold up.

But in this day and age of skyrocketing gas prices, unless you need the brawn and extra capabilities of a Suburban, it's best to look at something smaller. If gas was cheaper, I'd have an easier time recommending it.

But if you need its abundant space and power, go for it.|||stay away from it, even if you can afford the truck, you probably won't be able to afford the insurance because it is an old car, and it's certainly not fuel efficient, you will probably spend $90 each time you need to fill up which would be every week probably|||It will break you up in gas.

What can I get from a salvage yard for an '03 Chevrolet Cavalier LS Sport?

They don't care what kind of car it is or what condition it's in. They are pricing it by the pound for the scrap metal.

If there are any salvagable parts like engine, transmission, radiator etc. those will get pulled and sold off.

Chevrolet?

Is this COT mess all cus of Chevys stop to the Monte Carlo? If not why'd they change it? I liked the Monte Carlo but I also like the Impala, my parents have an impala 2007 model|||Some of the early history on the COT:

NASCAR Working on 'New Car': NASCAR is closer to a futuristic car that promises a safer ride for stock car racers and millions of drivers buying vehicles off the showroom floor. The fatal crashes in 2000 of Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin in New Hampshire and Tony Roper in Texas led NASCAR to reach out to the best engineers it could find, and the Dale Earnhardt accident threw the project into high gear. There have been plenty of crashes since, some serious, but no deaths. And if NASCAR's safety program keeps progressing as it has recently, the risks of deadly wrecks will keep going down. With the major car makers working on the program with NASCAR, it's a good bet that some of those safety features will wind up on street cars. Practically every part of the car is being examined for ways to make it safer. New high-tech materials - a foam aluminum that resembles a sponge; a honeycomb metal that looks as if it came out of a mutant beehive; steel designed to bend and crinkle on impact - are under investigation. Improved "crush zones" would absorb energy in a crash to protect occupants. Better collapsible steering wheels, changes in the location of the oil tanks; refined gas, brake and clutch pedals; a new generation of shock absorbers and tires that will make cars easier to control; systems to prevent fires or suppress them - they're all part of NASCAR's overhaul.

(Notice the Date. Nothing to do with Chevy)|||I think because there are 2 cars this year, the COT and the CORN (car of right now) they wanted to give them different names because they are very different. Dodge did it too, the Charger and the Avenger.|||CHARLES, SAID IT ALL!!! THERE IS NOTHING MORE FOR ME TO SAY!!!!!!|||Sales of the Monte Carlo (2 door) was poor. With poor sales come discontinuation of that model. So this begain the down fall, but NASCAR was already planning a "larger-more safe" car.Something simular to the cars of the 60's.Thus the COT was born.

Some modern styling and some of the geometry from the 60's and a lot of complaining. But the bottom line is the chance that restrictor plates are a thing of the past.

A car with safty features to protect our favorites as well as all the drivers.

Yes we are complaining but there is a good chance of better racing in the future.|||It has nothing to do with Chevy. NASCAR wanted a safer car that was less aero dependent and could be used at all the tracks. They created the COT.

Chevy stopped making the Monte because of the slow sales and they needed to shut down that plant it was built in so they could start to convert it over from the W-body platform to the new Zeta platform.|||Take it from someone that has been on the inside of the fence at the track, no the COT did not develope because of Chevy dropping the Monte. The COT was developed in the intrest of driver safety, and cost cutting for the team owners.

Now as for why Chevy chose the Impala as opposed to the Monte....Country Boy is probably right.|||Hey, Charles hit it right on...Nothing else to say..My friend just traded her Monte Carlo in for the Impala and she loves it.. I never saw many Monte Carlos on the road anyway, I see the new impalas every where.|||Yes they are all right. Let me add this: I bought a 2 door 2006 Monte Carlo just for me. I do not have children, and do not use the car to transport any more than 2 people. (Myself and one other person.) I like the styling, comfort and the whole shebang. I do not expect to be driving the 140 that the speedometer states, but it still is a nice ride.

If I am going to make payments of this car, I wanted to get what I wanted not someone else. Thanks|||Here's the bitter truth (I'm a Chevy man). The two door Monte Carlo dad very poor sales levals because it was a two door model. Our local Chevy dealer said any two door model these days are a slow mover on the new and used car market market.|||I hope papabill is right !!!|||Charles has a fantastic answer with the safety. And there

is another reason that nobody has stated yet so I will.

Aerodynamics, Before the CoT car there were slight

variations in the shape of the body to make them faster.

With the CoT there can be no variations (the Jeff and Jimmy

penalty) even between different makes of cars. So it puts

all of the cars on the same playing field, at least as far as

aerodynamics go. So now one manufacture can't complain

about another having an advantage in that area.

And as far as the 2 dr. vs 4 dr. I think that you are right about

sales. 4 dr. cars are easier for people to get in to and out

of. Esp. for families and people that have more than 2

people in it at a time. But I'm a child of the 60's and 4 dr.'s

whats the differance between a Chevy 150, 210, And a Bel Air?|||i love this question as i have owned 2 1955, 1 56 and 2 57, the 150 is a post car as in there a frame around the door window when you open the door and with both windows down there was still a post between the windows.

the 210 was a hard top, with no frame a round the window when you open the door and when you put both front and back windows down there was no post between them.

and the belair came in both 210 and 150 models, belair just had the better trim, and nicer seats

and the 160 that iwr735 ia talking about is a two door delivery wagon, not the same as a nomad, it did have only two doors but the same doors that was on the 150 will work on the 160, the nomad had doors of its own just as the 210 had there own set of doors.

How much is a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS in bad condition?

Im getting my license in a couple yrs. and i want to get a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS hardtop in bad condition so i can work on it how much would one cost. It has to be in bad condition but good enought to drive.|||Consider this, the '70 SS has become a collector item. therefore, they are inflated in cost, even if they are in 'bad condition'. I would suggest you look at other alternatives. The mid-70 camaro can often be purchased for a lot less money, and they can be just as easy to work on. They also have better brakes, and their parts are similar to the chevelle. The 71 or 72 chevelle is the same basic car as the 70, and they can be a lot cheaper to buy, and they clean up nice. What you are talking about doing may be coming to an end. $4.00 gas, is quickly doing away with the fun and games of hot rodding. You may want to consider the the tuners, honda and toyota, at least they are cheaper to use. good luck and be safe.|||a half way decent SS could run you 10k or more (a show model those run over 25k), but a rough one about $5,000. How many miles can a chevrolet avalanche go until complete breakdown, if you take really good care of it?

I want to buy a used chevrolet avalanche soon, but my mom wants me to buy a brand new one. They are way expensive but she says you can only get 100,000 miles out of an avalanche. Is this true? help i need way more information about how many miles i can get out of the truck.|||The Avalanche is based on the Silverado. Chevy trucks are very reliable if you take decent care of them. My uncle's last truck was a 1994 Silverado. He was hard on that truck, and it had just under 300,000 miles on it when he traded it in. It looked rough, but it was still running.|||How long is a piece of string?

Your fixation is misplaced. You should be asking; how long can you drive an Avalanche before the cost of maintenance and repairs exceeds the value of the vehicle? Well maintained there is no reason it couldn't go twice the figure momers says but they are not cheap to run and maintain. Not so good mileage, expensive to outfit with tires [price 'em go ahead] and you didn't ask but in my opinion they look like they were designed by a 5 year old with broken crayons, ugly. Does anyone own a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe that is financed?

I am thinking of getting a new 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe financed. I was just wondering, what are your monthly payments and the interest rate is, and how long your term is. Thanks.|||How's your credit? The price of the Tahoe is obviously important, but the payments are also determined by the interest rate, which is determined by the quality of your credit.

If your credit is flawless, expect a rate in the neighborhood of six percent for a five year loan, a bit higher for six years, even higher for seven years or more. If your credit is not flawless, then the rate will be higher.

To approximate a payment, do the following:

Take the selling price and add twelve percent. This will cover taxes and dealer fees and registration. In some states, this will be less, as some states have very low registration fees and others have little or no sales tax. Adjust for your location.

Subtract the above total by your down payment. You now have an amount financed.

Guess at your rate, based on your score and credit history. Divide this by two.

Multiply the above (half of your expected rate) by the number of years you expect the loan to be.

As an example, if you can get six percent, divide by two, which equals three, and multiply by years (5), which equals fifteen. Multiply this by the amount financed. Add this result to the amount financed. Divide by the term in months. Viola! You have a payment.

Example:

Sales price fifty thousand. Add twelve percent equals fifty six thousand. Subtract down of ten thousand equals forty six thousand.

Multiply by fifteen percent (0.15) equals six thousand nine hundred. Add to amount financed equals fifty two thousand nine hundred. Divide that by the term in months (five years = 60) and you get a payment of eight eighty two (appx.).

The reason you divide the APR by half is that the balance of the loan goes down each time you make a payment, and eventually gets close to zero for the last payment. So, the average balance of the loan is about half the original amount finance. Since the interest is a bigger chunk of the first payment that it is of the last, the divide by two gets you a lower payment than the real one, but it provides a good estimate.

Happy hunting!

The price will be the same whether it's sold by a Chevy or a Ford dealer.

There are 3 possible reasons for looking at a Chevy dealer. The former owner may have liked like his Chevy, so he traded it in on a newer model at the same dealer. The Chevy mechanics probably know Chevys better than a Ford mechanic.|||Another dealer usually, seeing as how your getting a 04-06 model you should look into both carmax as well as other places like that.

My 1991 Chevrolet Camaro is too low to the ground (bought it that way) and certain spots in the road catch my bumper and scrape the paint off. I do not need a new bumper because of the paint, I need it because my present bumper is cracked... I also need a grille because mine has been completely destroyed...

Thanks in advance!|||Car is over 10 years old, so Chevy is not obligated to provide replacement parts anymore.

Check your local auto salvage yard. They should be able to hook you up. They network together to distribute parts nationwide.|||a chevy dealer is a good place to start....ill take 10 points and a pizza|||scrap yard may sound like a stupid answer but you can find nice replacements for cars/trucks if you just ask dont just try one yard try as many as you can for best luck be specific with them also if your old bumper drags then make sure the chassis and suspension is alright cause puting a new bumper on may not be the only problem but since i cant see the car you get to judge good luck

My 1989 Chevrolet Corvette sometimes has a problem starting, what could this be?

I have a 1989 Chevrolet Corvette with 67,000 miles. It sometimes has an issue starting up. It will turn over and immediately die. It usually takes a few more attempts and it will start up fine. It doesn't happen all time. I just replaced the fuel injectors and did a tune up on it 6 months ago. I have one theory and it could need a new electric fuel pump. Any other suggestions?|||Was this problem evident before changing the injectors and tune-up?

It sounds to me like the fuel in the line is returning back into the fuel tank after it is shut off. This will cause the car to start for a few seconds and stall. But, after the pump gets the fuel back through the line its fine.

This should only be a problem if it sets for more than 1 hour.

This will require a little more research on your part to find the valve that shouldnt allow fuel to flow back into the tank.|||Clean the iac, iac passage and throttle body with some carb or fuel inj cleaner. Incidentally, if you ever have to replace fuel pump on that thing, you're in luck, as that's the easiest in tank GM pump to change. A far cry from the brutal camaro pump change.|||when it turns over and dies, does that mean it starts temporarily? or does the starter give out? this could be a starter problem or it could be an intermittent cam or crank sensor signal. could also be a temp sensor out of range. best to have her scanned by a reputable shop.|||Change the fuel filter every 30K. It really does help.

Can all Chevrolet Cobalt cd player models fit each other?

I have a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt and I don't have an auxiliary port. I wanted to change it to a new factory cd player that includes one, but I want to make sure that it will work with my car.

Thanks!|||I suggest that you speak with your local dealership to see if this conversion can be done. They would be the most knowledgeable on this subject. I hope that helps.

What upgrades can I make on my 1986 Chevrolet Caprice to increase it's performance?

I have a 1986 Chevrolet Caprice 4 door, Box style. It has the stock 305 in it, and just about everything else is stock. I'm looking for gradual upgrades I could make, I can't afford a engine or tranny swap, so I was wondering what little upgrades could I make to increase the speed and acceleration? Gears? what Gear Ratio? Intake? Etc. Etc. I think for what it would cost for gear change, engine mods etc you could get a decent junk yard 350 carb motor and drop it in. How do I reset the "service engine soon light" on my 2005 Chevrolet Classic?

The "service engine soon" light is lit up on my 2005 Chevrolet Classic and I do not have an owners manual. How do I reset or clear it?|||Not really sure which light you mean. Not really sure which vehicle you mean either, but I'm guessing a Malibu Classic? If it's the "Service Vehicle Soon" light, the DIC (Drivers Information Center) should have some info on why it's lit. If it's the "Check Engine" light, or MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light), then that would be triggered by an emission failure. In either case, the first thing to do is find out what the problem is and fix it. Either light should turn itself off then, although the 2nd light could take a while. It can be turned off with a scanner, but will light again if the problems not fixed. It also won't pass most plug and play emissions tests.|||Get it checked. That's an emissions problem and could really screw up your car.|||pull 1 battery cable off for about a minute and rehook it, the light will go off but if you have a problem with the car the light will be back on shortly.

Could a Chevrolet cavalier pull an enclosed trailer?

I have a Chevrolet cavalier and I was just wondering if it could pull a 5'x8' enclosed trailer that weighs about 960 lbs. I'm in a local band and we haven't been able to purchase our van yet but we have some shows coming up and need to pull our trailer. With our equipment it shouldn't weigh more than 1300 lbs.|||1300 is ok.|||Well personally i wouldnt haul a trailer with a cavalier because of it's small size. If its a four cylinder forget about it. GM Suggests at least a 2.4L engine. Plus that trailer is large for it and you don't wanna have the back suspension kill. Also itll probably kill your mileage

What does it mean when the service light icon goes on in my 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier?

How do I fix the plastic shields that are falling off underneath my Chevrolet Prizm (Corolla)?

Underneath the front of my Chevrolet Prizm / Toyota Corolla (they are the same) there are some plastic panels / baffles / shields that protect stones, dirt, etc. from going up and hitting the radiator and engine. However, many of the screws holding on the baffles have rusted and broken off, causing the shields to dangle down. I am not sure what I can do to fix this - Do I somehow drill out the old screws? Do I bore new holes and somehow bolt them through?|||find the pre-existing holes the plastic shields were held on in the first place and use zip-ties. the wont rust out and if you ever need to take the shields down, you can just cut them.

Where can I get a 600 HP Chevrolet engine for a daily driver?

I'm looking for a high quality, heavy duty engine that will compete with a Corvette on the street and drag but want it for a carburetor setup. It is going to go in a 1967 Chevrolet C/10 short wheel base pick up. I've got 4.11 gears with a T56 transmission.|||1st off in a 67 c/10 your gonna need 700 HP due to the weight of truck to keep up with corvette z06's, unless your putting a fiberglass cab and front clip on the truck

Next with the weight of that truck your gonna need more gear. 4.30 or lower (higher numbers)

The T56 is not the best transmission for this. In fact an auto trans like a th-400 with a transbrake would be a much better option

Traction is gonna be a nightmare and if your just spinning the tires a honda will go right past your 600-700 hp truck.. So in a truck with that kinda power your gonna need ladder bars or 4 link with oil over springs and adjustable race shocks, along with atleast DOT legal drag radail rear tires

Now lets get to the engine. Most times I agree with GTA tony but this time I have you respectly disagree with him.

You can have a 600-700 HP daily driver with carb but heres what it boils down to...

What do you call streetable? This is very opinion based and just depends on the person.

What I call a daily driver and use as a daily car everyone calls a full on drag car.. To me its streetable though.

Last dyno was 505 HP, new upgrades no dyno yet but should be 580-605 HP

Now lets look at mine.. Power brakes won't work, have to use man. brakes.. Timing has to be spot on or get detonation. Timing and carb jetting changes on side of road if temp changes outside alot when driving. Get's 6-8 MPG on 93 octane pump fuel, Exhaust is at 108 DB at idle, 120 DB at 3000 rpm, 10 pt. roll cage inside the car. Front suspension loose, rear suspension rock hard and you FEEL every bump HARD

Cruz RPM is 3400 rpm @ 60 mph

Interior floor pan of car gets hot enough to cause the rubber on my boots to get sticky after an hour long drive (and this is with two layers of alum. type heat and sound deadeners on floor)

The 249/252* @.050, 106 LSA cam lopes hard enough to rattle fillings out of your teeth.

Engine won't idle under 1100 RPM

Is that streetable to you? It is to me!

To me if a car can run on pump fuel, has mufflers, working lights, and windows in it, then its streetable.

Now after all of thats out of the way... To get a more street friendly combo for your goal and useage I would recommend a supercharged 454 big block

Forged bottom end, 8.0:1 compression, alum heads, centrifulgal type supercharger, 8-10 psi boost, holley 4150 HP carb, 950 cfm, mech. sec. set up for blow through use. Around a 250* @.050 cam with a 116 LSA

2" tube header, dual 3.5" pipes, X pipe, ultra flow mufflers or other mufflers that flows over 1200 cfm|||There are many different engines that you could get that would be able to do what you want

Also you should be prepared to spend well over $10,000.00 on parts alone and get about 4 miles per gallon.

There is only 1 thing to remember horse power costs money how fast can you afford to go.

I would suggest that you build up a small block 350 with enough money you could easily get 600 Horse power and be a lot lighter than a big block with a much broader power band. Also parts for a small block are much cheaper than a big block.

You may also want to look into diesel engines they can do amazing thing with diesels now a days

Good choice in trucks though

EDIT

If any one really thinks that you can not build a 350 chevy to 600 horsepower they do not know what they are talking about.

It is very possible and has been done many times. and as far as the price of parts it is not going to cost any more than parts for a 572. Also there is nothing wrong with running a carbureted engine lots of people prefer them to fuel injected due to there simplicity and you can easily run just as much horse power through a carb as you can with fuel injection. NO it is not going to be a very good engine for a daily driver but it will be fun as hell to drive. And no truly fast car is a great daily driver.|||theres no way. just no. you wont be able to beat a corvette. you can get 600 horsepower though with a good 454 big block or even 396 big block. as far as a 350 small block goes. those are good for up to 500 horsepower but it takes alot of money to get them up there regardless of their parts availability. if you did wanna go with a small block you can get stroker kit for the 350 and bring it up to 383 then hit it with a power adder, like nitrous or turbo or supercharger. all this will be relatively cheap, but if you want great performance and good gas mileage with modern technology. i suggest doing either an LT or LS swap. you dont have to go LS1 or LS7 or anything like that, but you can get an lq4 which is a 6 liter cast iron block with aluminum heads and you can add an LS intake on it . or if you want more power you can just get an ls1 and add some goodies on to it. also gm makes a new 454 vortec that makes a bunch more horsepower compared to the old 454 of the 60's.|||A 600 horsepower CARBED motor you want to daily drive? LOL! Right. Good luck with that.

Sorry but you're aren't daily driving any vehicle with that motor...not with a carb. If you're truly serious about it go to a local engine build/performance shop, you're not really going to find much on a national level, at least nothing built the way you want it.

They will be available again in April 2009.|||chevy still part of GM? there is supposed to be a new camaro in a couple years....maybe|||Chevy is part of GM, so yes they are requesting money via GM. They also make a lot more than the Camaro.|||Yes, and it won't matter if they get one or not. They will still go out of business. They build crap now, and should be allowed to fade away.

Ford hasn't asked for, nor received one penny of money from the government. I have always been a Chevy man, but no more. Chevy and GM are exactly why this country is where it is today, and Ford is what it always has been.....a true American icon born and built on sweat and ingenuity, not the taxpayer's dime.|||No, Chevrolet isn't asking for money, the parent corporation, General Motors is, however.

What do you think of China and the Middle East owning Chevrolet?

China just bought a $500 million stake in Chevrolet and other foreign investors that are interested include several sovereign wealth funds located in the Middle East and Asia. The Journal says those funds, which manage the finances of royal families and some nations, could invest $1 billion in GM's IPO.|||They are building most of the "American made cars" in other countries anyway! So I really don't understand why this would surprise anyone. We are selling off our natural resources to foreigners also. It's all part of a plan of some kind that our government approves of.|||That $500 million stake is only 1% and is by Chinese automaker SAIC which is GM's partner in China. GM 's Nov. 18 stock offering will reduce the U.S. Treasury's stake in the company from 61 percent to 43 percent, and will help payback the more than $50 billion that taxpayers invested in GM to keep it from collapsing. More stock offerings will happen in the next year or so, letting the government fully divest from the automaker. The U.S. Treasury has been clear that international investors are welcome to invest in GM, and many outside the U.S. are considering taking stakes in the company.|||I am not inclined to buy any GM product because it is owned by the government. I would be even less inclined to buy anything owned by the Chinese. I think this administration is just inviting China to take over the US because they already own a sizable portion of the US debt and it is getting worse. I am Ford all the way. It's all I drive.|||I think taking their money to make American cars is just fine.

How many inches taller is a 1988-1998 Chevrolet 1500 Z71, than a 1988-1998 Chevrolet 15004x2?

I have a 97 Chevrolet 1500 4x2 and i want it to sit just as high as a Z71 .Like how much taller is the z71 considering that both trucks have the same size tires on it. I just need to know how much suspension lift i need. Im guessing its probably like 1 1/2inches. I really just need to konw how much taller the suspension is on the z71.|||There really is not that much of a difference, the angle at which the truck sits is a bit different the back sits higher, but only like a half inch, the only difference in the two models is aftermarket shocks that chevy installs, plus there are little pads so the suspension doesn't hit the frame.

Sorry, i just realized you said 4X2, sorry about that, there should be 2 to 2 1/2 inches actually. Sorry.

What is the electrical box called on the passenger side at the end of the dash on a Chevrolet truck called?

I have been told they work well because they have more torque. Thank you.|||There is nothing different between any of the engines except the cam profile and the gaskets are thicker on the marine engine. it'll work just fine. Good luck!!!|||One site I visited said this:

Q: What's the difference between the truck and marine engines compared to the passenger car engines?

A: They share alot of the same parts like crank and rods but the heads and block are different between them. The truck and marine blocks have a cut out area in each cylinder that helps lowers the compression to 7.75:1 The notch in the block is not responsible for all the compression loss however. The truck and marine heads have a combustion chamber and shorter pistons which are responsible for the largest amount of the compression loss. On a positive note, the notch in the block also allows more room around the exhaust valve thereby enhancing the air flow.|||they have more torque do to longer stroke. the only difference that i can tell would be the mount locations, also, they are designed to run cold- no radiator.|||Where did you find this engine???

Can a 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe LS with 2 Wheel drive pull a camper and also is it good with going fast?

Can a 2009 chevrolet tahoe LS, pull a camper and go fast? does it have good horsepower? Is it often slow when stopping at a stop light and then starting back again? Thanks!|||Them 2009 Tahoes have a pretty descent amount of HP i would say that its a pretty good truck to pull a camper it shouldn't be to hard.|||Yes it can.

But in 2WD mode, it is a RWD car, which means it will be slippery in rain if you go a little fast in the turns and if the camper is heavy, it will have trouble pulling it up very very steep hills when it is raining.

But the Chevy Tahoe has more than enough power to pull a camper. The AWD model can tow an Boeing 747 airplane so a 2WD should be able to pul half of that weight, which is much more than the weight of a camper.

I need to replace a fuse in my 1996 Chevrolet Blazer to get my blinker working again. How do I know which one?

I need to replace a fuse in my 1996 Chevrolet Blazer to get my blinker working again. How do I know which one to replace? |||usually on the fuse box cover has a diagram of what all of the fuses are and their location. also in the owners manual it will give all of the details of what fuses are and where they are located. it will also give you the detail of how many amps the fuse needs to be. you also have a relay for the blinkers "flashers" it could possibly be the relay and it too will be on the diagrams. |||check your owners manual|||If you're trying to visually inspect the fuse box to find the right one you're going to want to shine a flash light on the colored portion of the fuse. You should easily be able to tell which fuse is burned out because the fuse conductor will be broken in the middle just like a burned out light bulb.

You can also follow a wire diagram available online for free in most cases but I'm guessing you'll spend less time and energy doing it my way! ;-)

Once you find the offending fuse remove it with a pair of needle nosed pliers as they're usually seated firmly in place. Most owner's manuals will recommend that you pull the negative cable from the battery but I say, save yourself the ten minutes and just pull the plug using the pliers and replace it the same way with the exact same amperage fuse. |||They're listed in the owner's manual. On some cars, the fuse circuits are listed on the underside of the fuse panel cover. Last ditch, try looking for the blown fuse. Unless you're having a bad day, there will only be one. Just pull them one at a time and look for the one with the melted filament.

Do not replace it with one of a higher rating. Just use the same rating as the one you pulled. If it keeps blowing you'll need to troubleshoot the short circuit. |||Ideally they'll be labeled. What you want to do is pull out each fuse, one by one, that you can't be sure isn't the right fuse. Look at it and see if it's intact. If it's intact, it's not the fuse to replace.

A fuse labeled "A/C" or "gauges" doesn't need to be pulled out. A fuse labeled "lights" or "signal" might be the right one, so pull that one out to be sure.

A blown fuse is very easy to detect. Look at the picture I linked to. Notice the melted, broken part on just left of center?|||Call your local Chevy Dealer. They won't charge you to call them to find the diagram for you make of vehicle. You are going to do the work you just want and need a diagram. If they do not have one they will know where to find it through their company data base in most instances. That year of Blazer was very popular too. There are lots of them around. Look for a used car dealer (if you can't get Chevy to help) and see if he has a Blazer on his lot sitting around. In this economy you are more likely to find one.

If worse comes to worse, pull each fuse until you see one with a small break in the middle of the metal circuit and replace it with the same size. It is always good to do this every 6 months any way because sometimes you never know until something else breaks. Refer to the pic from the above answerer. You see that it looks like an H. Well where the cross line on the H is, that is usually where it is burned or broken. Pull it out and replace with same number. It is still a good idea to call a dealer about where you can find a diagram though and put a new one in or be able to make yourself a new one, even if it is just a laminated card to keep in the glove box.|||you could pull each 1 until you find the 1 that,s burnt out.

How can I tell if my fuel pump in bad in my Chevrolet 2500?

Need help starting my 2002 Chevrolet 2500?

Duramax Diesel 2002 Chevrolet 2500

Started the truck this morning, ran for two minutes then died. Has power, turns over and is not giving me any computer codes. No dead fuses either.

A red wire ontop the fuel filter had come undone so I plugged back in. Still won't run.

A few people suggested the fuel pump, how do I check to see if this is bad?|||Reprime your fuel filter. All you have to do is pump the rubber button on top of the filter housing until you feel it getting stiff.|||It is very doubtful that your fuel pump went out. Try taking out your fuel filter see if it is dirty. Turn your key on while you have the filter pulled see if you get fuel. I do believe not sure there is a booster pump in the tank. The injector pump is on the engine though.|||are you in a climate, ware the cold we have been getting, has not turned your fuel into jello? If you wish, you can get a fuel pressure guage, and see what fuel pressure you have.

While your at it, may be good to change out all the fuel filters with new ones|||try changing your fuel filter dude. when was the last time you changed it?

you gonna need to fill the new filter with fresh diesel if air gets in the line it wont crank so be ready with the new one RIGHT WHEN you take off the old one put the new one in QUICKLY|||Although it isn't the correct way to test a fuel pump, one thing that is often used to start a vehicle when the fuel pump has gone out is to tap on the gas tank with a rubber mallet while trying to start it. Usually you can get it to start one more time if it is infact the fuel pump. Then take it to a shop and have them check it out if you don't have the tools to test it yourself.

Again, not really used to test the pump obviously, but at least it should start one more time if the pump went out.|||the fuel injection pump on the engine is a rugged unit i doubt it is bad im not sure but there could be a fuel pump in the tank like gas trucks check fuses and relays for that make sure fuel filters are clean or new very important for all diesels and use fuel conditioner in tank every so often.|||Okay I've already answer you later question on this same vehicle with the same problem but I wanted to make a comment to all the others that have put their 2 cents in.

A Duramax does not have a fuel pump in the tank. The system works by siphoning fuel up to the transfer/high pressure pump located on the top front of the engine.

I wish that people who don't have any clue about these vehicle would refrain from posting guesses for answers!|||Hi, take it to a shop as this is no task for a "do it yourselfer" fuel pumps on duramax engines are buried in the engine.Recommend a gm shop.Good luck

Does the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD have a recall on the speedometer and gas gauge?

My speedometer and gas gauge began to malfunction in Janurary 2010. The speedometer works occassionally. The gas gauge indicator, when the tank is filled, goes all the way straight down towards the floor and when about half of the fuel is used, it occassionally will adjust to the proper setting. The Chevrolet service manager stated concerning the gas gauge that it was not the gauge but was a problem within the tank and would cost a consider amount of money to fix as they would have to remove the tank.|||HI!

You have NO Cable to operate your Speedometer. it is all electronic ( and i do not mean digital ! ) The Speed Sensor could not be at fault for this type of Problem either!

I have seen this Many Many times in Chevy , Gmc , Buick , Pontiac Etc vehicles. They even will warranty the cluster thru the dealership!!

The Problem lies in the Speedometer Cluster. These Clusters made after 2000 have Stepper Motors to drive ALL the gauges including the SPEEDOMETER ! The Tachometer and Speedometer are the Most prone to failure as they are used the most!

It is best to have the Instrument Cluster Removed and Repaired or Replaced. A junkyard Replacement is ok but make sure you get a guarantee.

I pull at least one cluster a week and repair them for this same sort of problem!

I would charge $160 to repair the cluster plus shipping.

I guarantee my work for 2 years.

I hope this helps Good Luck!|||G M has a serious problem with inst. clusters. I have changed quite a few of these before .Some dealers will goodwill them under warranty because of a known product fault. 2004 seems the worst year for this but I have seen a few other years. Good luck and hope this helps.|||there are no recalls for either of those on your truck. The speedo. may have to be reprogrammed and the other is your sending unit inside your truck and is pretty easy to fix yourself, although you will have to buy a new fuel pump. If you need help with that just E-mail me.|||It isn't a full blown recall. GM is extending the warranty coverage. See the post below for details.|||Here is an idea, call the dealer with the VIN and ask them if there any outstanding recalls. The service manager is an idiot, it is the float or the sensor.

Where is the OnStar unit located in my 2000 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

Where is the OnStar unit located in my 2000 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

I have searched online and found a few sites detailing the removal. They say it is located in a cargo compartment opposite the jack in the rear of the vehicle. No such compartment exists in my vehicle. The OnStar device is installed on the vehicle but I have not found it. I appreciate your help.|||Well, it doesn't have a keyboard, it doesn't run Windows. Linux, or Mac OS, so I think you posted this on the wrong thread.

Can I Install a trailer hitch on my 2005 Chevrolet Venture, how much money, and how much weight could it pull?

Hello, i have a 2005 Chevrolet Venture, and was thinking installing a hitch to pull a pop-up trailer behind it. I was just wondering how much it would cost to install one, and approxiamately how much weight it could hold. Thanks a lot.|||Call a U-Haul dealer or trailer hitch installer---they have specs on what's recommended and available. Owner's manual may have info on it too.Don't forget to upgrade radiator, trans cooler and maybe rear suspension/shocks/springs to accomodate the heavier load if you're trailering a lot.

son had a 99 2 door 170,000 when we sold it had to replace air conditioning compressor at 150,000

both had to have alternators replaced in the 125,000 area which was over 6 years on each|||timing belts are recomended to be changed every 100,000 kms. but my parents venture and alero are both way over 100,000 without a change lol|||That is going to be up to the owner you if you buy the car if it were me i would change it as for i drive every thing i own hard and it would be cheaper and less time consuming to change it at the 100,000 mile mark but not knowing how you drive is a whole different story

My 1991 Chevrolet caprice classic sat for 5 years, and now wont start?

My 1991 Chevrolet caprice classic sat for 5 years, and now wont start, it has a new battery. It turns but won't turn over. Checked oil, looks good..|||First off you are attempting to start the engine with 5 year old gasoline. Drain all of the fuel and add about 5 gallons of fresh gas. You may also want to change the fuel filter.

Yes, you siphon the fuel if you can. However some cars are difficult to get a siphon hose into the tank because of the baffles in the tank. If this is so with this car you may need to remove the fuel tank. However try to siphon first.

Gold Eagle makes a product called "Start Your Engines". This is a fuel additive intended to help start an engine that has been sitting for a long time. Read the instructions and add enough of this product to treat the 5 gallons of fuel you just added to your car. It may be a good idea to add this product to the fuel before you put the gas in the car so it can be properly mixed.

I believe the engine in this car is the throttle body style fuel injection. Remove the air filter cover and look at the fuel injectors located on top of the throttle body. Have someone crank the engine. Do you see fuel coming from the fuel injectors? If no fuel this will need to be investigated. Most likely either a problem with the fuel pump or the fuel injectors are plugged with dried fuel.

Make sure the engine is getting spark. Take a known good spark plug. Disconnect one of the spark plug wires and connect it to this good spark plug. Lay the plug on a metal piece of the engine where you can see the electrodes. Have someone crank the engine and see if there is a good strong spark. If there is no spark this will need to be checked.|||change plugs, wires, cap and rotor, and fuel filter any car that sits that long should have all this changed in addition you should also have the cooling system flushed and possibly the thermostat changed out since it sat there and rusted for 5 yrs, probably should change the belt too, its probably begin to dry rot|||The motor turns over but won't start? Get a mechanic if you can find one that wants to work on that POS.
